Privacy notice
This is a personal portfolio site. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no cookies. The only personal data it ever asks for is what you type into the contact form.

01Who is responsible
This site (olegnar.com) is run by Oleg Narainen, a student at Middlesex University Mauritius, as a personal project. It is not operated on behalf of any company or of the university.
For anything on this page, including a request to see or delete your data, write to oleg.narainen@gmail.com.
02What is collected
There are only two ways any data about you reaches me.
- The contact form. Your name, your email address and the message you write. Nothing is pre-filled and nothing is taken from your device. It is only what you type, and you decide when to send it.
- Server logs. Like every website, the service hosting this one records standard technical request logs: IP address, browser type, page requested, time. These are generated by the hosting provider for security and reliability, are not linked to you by name, and are not used to build any profile.
There is no sign-up, no newsletter, no analytics script, no advertising network, no social media pixel and no session recording anywhere on this site.
03Why, and on what basis
Contact form details are used for exactly one purpose: to read your message and reply to it. They are never sold, rented, published or used to market anything.
Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis for handling your message is your consent, given when you choose to send it (Article 6(1)(a)). The basis for the hosting provider's technical logs is legitimate interest in keeping the site available and secure (Article 6(1)(f)). Where the Mauritian Data Protection Act 2017 applies, the equivalent grounds under that Act are relied on.
04Cookies, and why there is no banner
This site sets no cookies. Not functional ones, not analytics ones, not advertising ones. That is why you were not asked to accept anything on the way in. There is nothing to accept.
One small thing is stored in your browser: a single sessionStorage entry
named olegnar:preloaded, holding the value 1. It records that
the opening animation has already played, so it does not replay every time you come back
to the homepage during a visit. It contains no identifier, it is never sent anywhere,
and your browser deletes it the moment you close the tab.
05Third parties
Three other parties are involved in the site working at all.
- The hosting provider, which serves the pages and keeps the technical logs described above.
-
Google Fonts. The typefaces are loaded from Google's servers
(
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com), which means your browser makes a request to Google and Google therefore receives your IP address and basic request information. No cookie is set by this and nothing is shared with Google deliberately, but the request does happen and you should know about it. - Formspree, if and when the contact form is wired up to it, which receives your submission and forwards it by email. If the form is not wired up, it instead opens your own email application with the message ready to send, and nothing passes through any third party at all.
06How long anything is kept
Messages you send stay in my email inbox for as long as the conversation is useful, and are deleted on request. Hosting logs are kept for the short period the provider retains them and are then rotated out automatically.
07Your rights
You can ask to see what I hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to it being held at all. Since the only thing I actually hold is an email you chose to send me, honouring any of these normally takes one message and a few minutes.
Email oleg.narainen@gmail.com and say what you want done. If you are in the EU or UK and are unhappy with how I have handled it, you have the right to complain to your national data protection authority; in Mauritius, to the Data Protection Office.
08Children
This site is not aimed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent me their details through the contact form, email me and I will delete the message.
09Changes
If what the site does with data changes, whether that is an analytics tool, a comment system or anything that sets a cookie, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too.
